Soyong to speak at “Live Canvas”

Soyong Partington is to speak at “Live Canvas – The World of Art and History” Conversations About Art on Friday, April  25th from 6-8pm.

Soyong studied graphic design under the famous fabric designer Jong Hwa Park
and sculptor Jong Myung at Sook Myung Women’s University in Seoul, Korea. She
was told by her parents to study graphic design in college and not ceramics
because they believed that there were too many potters in Korea. Years later
Soyong finally gave into her desire to learn ceramics and started taking ceramic classes at t he Indianapolis Art Center. She participates in the Broad

Ripple Art Fair and has frequent one-woman shows at various galleries throughout the Midwest.

Soyong is the head of ceramics department at the Sullivan Munce Cultural Center
and teaches the popular ceramics and youth camps there. Her art is shown at

well-known local galleries and her art work and jewelry is for sale at the Sullivan Munce Cultural Center Boutique.

The “Live Canvas – The World of Art and History” Conversations About Art series is sponsored by the Sullivan Munce Cultural Center, Zionsville, Indiana. 205-255 West Hawthorne Street. 317-873-6862

__”Among the Art Center ceramics faculty, the Michael and Soyong Kang Partington installation and wall pieces are as compelling as anything I’ve seen in the ever-expanding ceramics media; perhaps more so. “Mystery Fungus Dinner for Four” is true to its title: Hyper-realistic clay ’shrooms adorn platters and dishes (also made for the occasion); and the wall pieces are suggestive of the most exotic of these mysterious fruits of the forest. Better yet, they speak to mystery … period.”__
