The Raku Firing Process
The RAKU Firing Process

The ceramic artwork is placed in a pre-heat kiln toraise the tempurature a few hundred degrees.

.


The preheated pieces are pulled from the pre-heat kiln and placed in the raku kiln.

.


After they heat to 1700 to 1900 degrees, they are lifted out quickly.

.

A container filled with wood chips, newspaper, sawdust, or excelsior has been prepared.

.

The artwork is dropped on top of the wood product and covered quickly.

.

The smoking cans are carried outside to smoke and cool down.

.

The finished items are removed for inspection.
